Godlieb Christiaan Opperman 1 died between 5 March and 7 September 1737 2 will dated 13 July 1731 and filed 7 September 1737 Notes: His wife had had the licence to sell malt beer before he married here and on 31st August 1729 the same licence was sold to him, and they seem to have kept this licence between them until 1733. (in August 1731 it was sold to 'Maria Koster, the wife of Godlieb Christiaan Opperman'). On the 16th August 1735 he requested permission to return to the Netherlands with his wife and children, travelling on the next return fleet and paying his own way. This was granted to him, but on the 7th February 1736 the Council of Policy resolutions record that he had requested permission to stay one year longer. Then, on the 20th March 1736, he petitioned once more, this time to remain living at the Cape, having bought a farm. (Resolutions of the Council of Policy, part 9, pages 196-204) He paid his second instalment on the farm bought from the Estate of Barbara de Jong on the 5th March 1737, but the third payment was made on the 11 October 1738 by Daniel de Vries 'als getrouwt met de wedw.
