Stephanus Sebastiaan Walters 1 farmer 2 of de Grendel, Paardeberg 3 born 1716 4 baptized 11 October 1716, Cape Town 5 died 25 October 1761, Swartland 6 Notes: On 26th August 1738 he petitioned the Council of Policy to be granted lettes of 'veniam aetatis' which would enable him to administer his own property, at that time under the control of the Orphan Masters. This was granted. In addition to 'De Grendel', they also owned the farm called 'De Slot van der Paarde Bergh', according to the inventory drawn up on 8th January 1762, but it notes that all buildings on this farm were ruinous. From this inventory it would appear that they were living pretty comfortably and owned thirteen slaves.
