# The parents of Matthijs Michielse Basson In his joint will with his wife, dated 1729, he stated that his parents were no longer living. I have assumed that he was the same person as the Matthys Michielse who was baptised in 1703. We know that the latter was still living in 1728 since he petitioned the Council of Policy for permission to manage his own property, stating that he was still under the guardianship of the Weesmeesters but had reached the age of 24, and asked for a grant of 'veniam aetatatis' which he received. In addition, in 1720, the estate accounts of Angela van Bengalen, list among her heirs only the one Matthijs Basson who was then still a minor, since his portion of her estate was entrusted to the Orphan Chamber.
