Hermanus Bosman 1
visitor of the sick, in the service of the VOC 2
of De Nieuwe Plantagie, Drakenstein 3
born circa 1683, Amsterdam 4
died 26 July 1769, Drakenstein 5
will dated 5 November 1757
and filed 7 August 1769 6 | Notes: | The inventory of his father-in-law, Abraham de Villiers, drawn up in 1721, notes that he had already received 100 guilders as a marriage gift, and was now receiving 500 guilders as the balanance due of Elizabeth's portion of her father's estate.
In 1748 he petitioned the Council of Justice, stating that 'during a period of fully 40 years, he had held the offices of Sick Visitor, "Voorlezer" and "Voorzanger" in the Drakenstein Congregation, as far as he is aware, to the satisfaction of his superiors:
he has, however, now attained to such old age that he can no longer discharge his duties properly and therefore humbly prays the Governor and the Council to relieve him of his duties and to permit him to remain here "onder afgescherven gage" (unsalaried) and, should he obtain this favour, he further begs that the Council may ... appoint his son Abraham ... [to] the post'.
