James Cadywold 1
freeman of Norwich, purchased (21 September 1630)
 | Notes: | This James Cadywold, the father, is assumed from the records of the Freemen of Norwich which list:
James Catawold son of James Catawold who was made a freeman of Norwich 12 Jan 1677 in right of his father. To be made a freeman in right of the father, the father needed in turn to have been made a freeman prior to the son's birth. If we assume that the son was 21 or more at the time of becoming a freeman then we can further assume that this James Cadywold must have been granted the freedom of Norwich prior to circa 1656 and to have been born prior to circa 1635.
There is an entry for a James Cattawould 21 Sep 1630 who apparently purchased his freedom. This could be the same James but I am not assuming it until more evidence is forthcoming. (source: Freemen of Norwich 1714 - 1752, f183c) |
