Anne de Ruel
born 10 November 1673, Guisnes, Calais 1
died still alive in 1748 apparently (opgaaf 1748 - changing hands)
 | Notes: | at the opgaaf of 1719 she lists 4 sons and 3 daughters then living with her. The four sons were presumably Isaac, Jacob, Jan and Steven, who, at the opgaaf of 1731, were all still living with their mother (source: Changing Hands, 1731 The De la Fontaine Report, 30th January, 1732) and in 1735 they were all four still living with her (Changing hands - The 1735 Eenlopendes, source of this database not given).
We have baptisms of 5 sons and 1 daughter. The family lived in the Drakenstein area, where the early church registers had disappeared by the early 1720s (see my notes here). The other two daughters seem to have been Anna Marais married to Gabriel Rossouw, & Maria Marais married to Jan Melchior Frick, and Charles Marais de jonge, seems to havee been another son. We don't know when these three were born - I have fitted them in to the sequence where there seem to be likely gaps.
Another daughter, Hester Marais, is attributed to this family in the Geslagsregisters van die Ou Kaapse families, page 533 (C.C. De Villiers revised C.Pama, 1966) with husband Jacobus Gardiol, and in the Rinken De Wet SAGi database, with husband Jacobus Cordier. I can't find any evidence for Hester Marais at all or for someone named Jacobus Gardiol. So far as I can see, using the muster rolls, Jacobus Cordier disappears after 1712 and is never listed with a wife. |
