Minet and W.C. Walter, 1891, and recorded in the book by C. G. Botha, The French Refugees at the Cape, 1919, and the article by M. Boucher, The Cape Huguenots from the Calaisis, in Familia vol.12 no.1, 1975, p.6-17. At the Cape the family name was most often spelled 'Provo', one assumes that this was a literal spelling of the pronunciation that its bearers gave it, similar, if so, to the modern one.

Boucher, M -The Cape Huguenots from the Calaisis, in Familia page 15 Elizabeth was born, not in Marck itself but ... but at Les Attaques, south east of Calais, on the road to Ardres. The date should read October 31, 1678, not November. (The source for this statement is given as the Guines transcript)

6 Botha, C.G. - The French Refugees at the Cape page 81 From the register of the Protestant church at Guisnes the following particulars of this family are drawn: On the 8th October, 1673, Charles Preuost, 'maitre charon', aged 23, son of Henry Preuost and Jeanne de Viffe (de Vief ?), 'natif de Dombroy pre de l’llle et demte. a Dunquerque', was married to Marie le Fevre, aged 22, daughter of the late David le Fevre and Elizabeth le Bleu, 'natiue de Marcq, et demte. aussi Dunquerque'.

5 Botha, C.G. - The French Refugees at the Cape page 81 Charles Prévot was deceased in July, 1688, as there is an entry then of the widow of 'Care1 Provo.'
