Notes:
In 1859 he left Zeeland where he had been a farmer at the time of his marriage,
but was recorded as a salt maker on the emigration papers, for Port Natal,
accompanied by his wife and five children.

In 1869, the year his father died, he and his family were living in/at Sir Lowry's
Pass according to the inventory of this father's estate drawn up 3 June 1869.
