On the 17th August 1691, named as Hendrick Gossel, he received permission from the Cape Town Burgerraad to leave the Cape District in order to settle in Stellenbosch. (MOOC 1 STB/2, page 27)
 Personalia states that he was a burgher and farmer at Drakenstein (giving as source a contract date 15 Dec 1703). According to the muster rolls (VC 41) they were at Stellenbosch in 1702 and 1704, and appear in Drakenstein in 1707 and 1707.
