Hendrik Koster Dirkje Evers

Maria Koster 1 born 1703, Cape of Good Hope 2 baptized 18 March 1703, Cape Town 3 Notes: Her children are given as listed in the will she drew up with her second husband, Godlieb Opperman. On the 30th August 1727 it was recorded in the minutes of the Council of Policy that the Malt Beer Licence, which for the two previous years had been held by Coenraad Feijt, was now held by his widow, and this was renewd on 31st August 1728. On 31st August 1729 the same licence was sold to her new husband, Godlieb Christiaan Opperman for 1,325 guilders, and they seem to have kept this licence between them until 1733. (in August 1731 it was sold to 'Maria Koster, the wife of Godlieb Christiaan Opperman'). (Resolutions of the Council of Policy, C. 83, pp. 100-102. C. 88, pp. 38-41. C. 90, pp. 85-87) In 1737, according to Hoge, Personalia of the Germans at the Cape, 1947, page 303 she applied for a divorce from Opperman on the grounds of his having taken to drink and ill-treating her and her children.
