Gerrit van Wijk Willemsz: 1 of De Vaderlandse Rietklooff, Piquetberg 2 died circa 1737 3 will dated 27 March 1731 and filed 8 January 1738 4 Notes: He would seem to have been working as a farmhand (knegt) for Willem Basson on the latter's property in Cape Town between 1711 and 1713. (1)(2) On the 7th Novebmer 1712, named as Gerrit Willemsz van Wijk, he requested and was granted permission to move from living in the Drakenstein District, to that of the Cape. (3) Details of his family come from the Inventory taken in 1730 after the death of his first wife, Elizabeth Vivier, the joint will he made with his second wife, Maria Provo (1731) and the will she made before her marriage to Gerrit van Schalkwyk (1740). The farm, Vaderlandse Rietkloof, was sold in 1730 at the settling up of the estate of Elisabeth Vivier. I don't know if Gerrit bought it in himself or not.
